The 2022 VMA Nominations Have Arrived: Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, & Lil Nas X Leading The Set

Doja Cat and Harry Styles aren't far behind with six nods each.

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards are only a month away and Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X all lead this year’s show in nominations, which were announced on Tuesday (July 26).

The three rappers have racked up a total of seven nods, with both Lil Nas X and Harlow being nominated together with their smash duet “Industry Baby” in five different categories. Lamar has been nominated in Best Cinematography for not just one but for two of his music videos: “Family Ties” and “N95.” Behind them, both Doja Cat and Harry Styles tie for the second-most nominations with six each. Several VMA vets — Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd — follow with highlights in five categories.

Lil Nas X and Harlow might have racked up the greatest number of noms together, but they are up for serious competition for the highly coveted Video of the Year award. Doja’s “Woman” and Styles’s “As It Was,” two of the year’s most iconic visuals, are also noted. They will face off against Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy,” Sheeran’s “Shivers,” and Swift’s “All Too Well” (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards will return to New Jersey’s Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday, August 28. The ceremony previously hit the Garden State in 2019 when it was hosted by comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco; last year’s show aired from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Scroll down for the full list of 2022 VMA nominees, and be sure to go and vote on vma.mtv.com for your faves.
