At a recent Anita Baker show at the Venetian Resort, Baker gave props to Chance the Rapper for helping her regain ownership of her masters.
André 3000 isn’t the only rapper who loves Anita Baker. During a recent show at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, where Baker is holding a limited show residency, the eight-time Grammy winner shouted out Chance the Rapper, who was in attendance. Acknowledging Chance, Baker shared that he helped her regain ownership of her masters, previously asking fans last year not to stream her music while she fought to receive her masters.
“You should say hello to a friend of mine, by way of the music industry, and by way of helping me, helping me to get a hold and ownership of my master recordings,” Baker told the Venetian Resort crowd while Chance stood and humbly bowed.
On Twitter, Chance replied to footage of Baker thanking him, writing, “I saw one of THE greatest performances of my LIFETIME last night! Thank you so much @IAMANITABAKER for being an inspiration and an icon to so many of US.”
The humility continued as Baker replied, “Had no idea you would be in our Midst. Such a nice Surprise. Brought Tears, to my eyes.”
“WOW the fact that you remembered my friends [sic] name AND that it was her birthday just echoes what an INCREDIBLE PERSON you are on top of all that you’ve given artistically,” Chance responded, referencing his guest who attended Baker’s show with him. “Honored and blessed to call you friend miss @IAMANITABAKER.”
Baker’s Venetian Resort residency will continue until Saturday, June 4th.
