Beyoncé Releases First ‘Renaissance’ Single “Break My Soul”

Bey season has officially started.

Beyoncé is officially back. The singer has just released her new single, “Break My Soul.” The song, which is an uptempo dance track, came hours before the track was supposed to release. (Earlier in the day yesterday, Beyoncé announced the song was dropping at midnight.)

“Break My Soul” was produced be The-Dream and features additional writing credits from JAY-Z and vocals from Big Freedia. (There is a short rap in the second verse; we’re assuming Jay helped with that.) The song is the first single from her upcoming album, Renaissance, which she announced last week. That album will be dropping on July 29th. The album is also titled act i, so there is theories that this will be the first of a series of albums.

The album also will feature 16 songs.

Fans first noticed the possibility of a new album rollout when Knowles-Carter removed her profile picture on all of her social media pages last week. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last year, the singer teased new music and the title of her seventh album.

“With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again,” she told the magazine. “I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible.”

She also confirmed that a new album would be coming. “Still, there’s nothing like the amount of love, passion, and healing that I feel in the recording studio,” she added. “After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old. Yes, the music is coming.”

Renaissance will be Beyoncé’s first solo studio album since she dropped Lemonade back in 2016.
