Bursting into the Music Industry in 1999, Alcorn State University Alum Carver Cathey decided he wanted to make a change regarding how the music industry and its practices were not suited for the independent artists. Knowing that independent and struggling artists were having difficulty being heard on radio and obtaining performance shows, Carver took his life’s savings and started his own Independent Label (Black Reign Entertainment). Carver assembled a group of hometown artists (Jackson, Tn) and put together a marketing, promotional, and networking plan for those artists and it paid off. 10 years later in 2009, BRE was sitting atop the Billboard Charts at #1 with Four(4) Singles from those artists that would never have been heard if it were not for the commitment of BRE, the artists, and fans who supported the movement.
